Laws of Reflection

Law of Reflection

1) The angel of Incidence equals the angle if reflection, i = r

2) The angle of incidence and the angle of reflection is measured from the normal not from the surface of the object.

Terminology

Incident Ray – incoming ray that strikes the surface

Reflected Ray – the ray that bounces off the surface

Normal – perpendicular line to a mirror surface

Angle of Incidence (i) – angle between the incident ray and normal

Angle of Reflection (r) – angle between the reflected ray and normal

Reflections

There are 2 types of reflection

1) Specular Reflection – the reflection of light off a smooth surface

2) Diffuse Reflection – the reflection of light off a irregular or dull surface
