Light Rays are lines on a diagram that represent the :

  • direction 
  • path

that light is travelling at

The Ray Model of Light

Terminology

Incident Light – is the light that is emitted from a source that strikes an object.

When light hits an object three things can happen:

1) Transmission – Goes through an object

2) Absorption – Object absorbs the light

3) Reflection – the light bounces back from a surface\

Three Types of Material

(1) Transparent – Light can pass through it

(2) Translucent – some light can pass through and some is absorbed

(3) Opaque – all light is either absorbed or reflected
